It's 24 hours after the close of the event. I'm still in a beef haze. It's possible that I was sweating cow juice today. It's utterly amazing I can squeeze out coherent thoughts. I calf to say... what a night!
I can't believe Bristol Lounge won!!! Now they have a basis to make their damn burger $25! The "bernaise" sauce was vaguely familiar to a substance only half of us should be trying.
Also in the lower rankings was Lower Depths. As I tried it, I think I liked it. But when push came to shove I couldn't even remember what it was. Something to do with apples? WTF!
The WORST of them all was the host of the event - KO Prime was complete crap. I think they were relying on home field advantage to carry them through. The only good thing about it was their promoter chick - boobs mcgee, who was off in the corner making out with her boyfriend. The foie gras looked like a moldy kitchen sponge - and tasted like it.
So those were my least favorite...
... in the middle of the pack were Stella, Toro, and Mikes City Diner. I can't bash any of these burgers. All were well constructed and had good flavor. Toro gets props for their use of caramelized onions - however, maybe just a little too sweet? I appreciated Mikes attempt at a Greek burger - tzaziki sauce, lamb, peppers and some heat. Nice flavor, but a little too dry. Stella --- twas good, but I really can't say it stood out.
My favorites (in order) were (1) Green Street, (2) Tremont 647 and (3) Sel de la Terre. Green Street got my vote because I'm an unabashed fan of Cambridge. I live there. I work there. And I will eat burgers there. Greg was a very cool guy and was happy to see other Cantabridgians out in support of the event. Tremont 647 was a close second, due to its 'classic' taste. Lettuce, tomato, raw onion - oh yah! That's the ticket. I bit into it, and I was like "This tastes like McDonalds"! I guess I really like McDs. SDLT was SDLT... we all know it's good. But I can't help but shake the feeling that Louie needs a new t-shirt. When's the next Chef Louie?!!
So I left Ming Tsai out of the review... why? Because he didn't make a friggin' burger! Regardless his shrimp/oxtail creation was awesome! And now I want to eat at Blue Ginger. It must really piss him off to be married --- he had chicks all over him last night. I had to drag Shaina off of him.
Okay - I'm out... gotta scrape the beef out of my eyes.
