Burger Bash @ KO Prime - review by Chech

Here's the deal, I like my burgers cooked. Yes, as in hold the pink stuff please. Also, I don't like foie gras. These two little (big) issues automatically "disqualified" a few contenders in my book.

Both the Bristol Lounge and KO Prime had a slice of foie hidden between the patty and the lettuce; but Bristol topped it with béarnaise sauce. All kinds of odd.

Green Street Grill served up a double whammy of pinkness. Two patties, yes two! Not one but TWO patties, bacon and cheese! Heaven right? Not for me. But I was the odd one out on this one.

Mike’s Diner served up what to me seemed a hybrid between tabbouleh and Kibeh. Great flavors but not my idea of a burger. And on Pita? PASS.

So, enough with the negative….where’s the yummy stuff you say?
Blue Ginger’s Shrimp and Oxtail was a dream! The panko crusted shrimp, the shredded oxtail, the utterly delicious sauce. THIS was heaven. But, was it a burger? No. Sorry Ming Tsai.

Tremont 647 and Sel de la Terre served up classic grilled burgers. The raw onion in T647’s was much appreciated (maybe not so much by the husband later that night) and SDLT is a classic that never fails. However, the SDLT mini burger failed in comparison to its full sized counter part served at the back bay restaurant. But that’s to be excepted right? Chef Louis did cook 300+ mini burgers…compromises have to be made.

Toro’s burger was my favorite. Covered with delicious sweet sautéed onions and gooey cheese, this was the highlight of the night – maybe the real highlight was standing a foot away from mega-uber chef Ken Oringer. Star struck much? Biased? COMPLETELY!!!

It was an awesome evening filled and full of yummy meatiness. Did I mentioned it was a benefit for AUTISM SPEAKS? Even better!
